Christina's Bio
Amateur Profile
Unlike most golfers competing at a high level, Christina was a late-comer to the sport. She did not play any competitive junior golf before graduating high school. This certainly wasn’t due to a lack of exposure to the game; Christina’s father, Tony Lecuyer, has long been one of Alberta’s top teaching professionals. Her two younger brothers were also two of Canada’s best juniors. Ryan Lecuyer won the 2003 Canadian Junior Boys’ Championship, and Steven Lecuyer is currently the #1 player for her alma mater, the University of Central
Arkansas.
Despite her focus on academics and other sports, Christina certainly picked up the game quickly. She won the first golf tournament she had ever entered, the 2002 Edmonton Ladies Amateur Championship at the “advanced” age of 19. Several other top finishes in Edmonton and Alberta tournaments attracted the attention of numerous college recruiters. In 2003, Christina, along with her brother Ryan, enrolled at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, AR.
College Profile
Christina had an outstanding collegiate career, both on the golf course and in the classroom. She won five collegiate tournaments and had 24 Top Ten finishes, earning 1st Team All Conference honors from 2003-2006 and twice being recognized as the Southland Conference Golfer of the Week. She was also a 2-time All-American honorable mention. Even with all these athletic accomplishments Christina was an even better performer in the classroom, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2007 with a GPA of 3.90 and a degree in Business Administration. In 2006, ESPN selected Christina as Second Team Academic All-American.
Professional Profile
After wrapping up her collegiate career, Christina has now focused her attention on the professional level. She advanced from the 2007 LPGA Qualifying School Sectional tournament in Palm Springs, CA to the 2007 LPGA Qualifying School Finals in Daytona Beach, FL. This was an incredible achievement considering it is seldom accomplished in a player’s first attempt, let alone a young player with only five years of competitive golf experience. Competing at Q-School Finals against seasoned female professionals from around the world, not to mention NCAA First Team All Americans, Christina did very well. She fired rounds of 71-72-78-78, finishing only 3 strokes away from the cut for the final round and well ahead of several long-time LPGA professionals.
In 2008, Christina showed she had the drive to compete and face all the pressures professional golf could throw at her. She again entered the LPGA qualifying school going through both sectional stages, but will be returning to the mini-tour circuit in 2009 to hone her skills and prepare once again for the LPGA qualifying event.
A major event in Christina’s professional career thus far was her selection to compete in the 2008 Big Break: Ka’anapali on The Golf Channel. Under extreme pressure, Christina showed her talent is real, finishing 4th behind three women who have a combined 40+ years of professional experience. It was very exciting to see this rising young star of women’s professional golf receive this international
exposure!
